It’s Singles Day y’all! Who else started this It’s Singles Day y’all! Who else started this year thinking “this is MY year, the year I’ll finally find my other half”. I’m sure this statement can be applied for many areas of our lives where we wanted change, yet in its place we got a global pandemic and everything got put on hold. I spent months frustrated because the books on dating that I was reading couldn’t be practiced so I just stopped reading them altogether. The thing that stuck with me though, is that I had to be in a good place and be happy with my life to be appealing to another person. The question then was, how do you get into a good place and feel happy with your life when everything got flipped upside down? Where do you find joy and contentment when you couldn’t hang out with your friends, you couldn’t get close to anyone to offer a helping hand or a comforting hug? That’s when all the previous years of seeking joy outside my status became helpful. All those Bible teachings I heard, all my notes on God’s faithfulness in spite of the circumstances, all the podcasts on unmet expectations and singleness, all the things I planted in my mind for so many years were ripe for harvest. It hasn’t been an easy year but I continue to rest in the hope that God is sovereign and I’m not missing anything I’m supposed to live. There’s growth in the hard moments and something beautiful will come out of this. Let this Singles Day be a day of celebration and hope for all of us. Her kitchen will start smelling like melted butter, cinnamon sugar and pecans from her signature cookies. She taught me how to love baking, specially because those cookies were my dad's favorites! My pain endurance has been reducing slowly but I am noticing. I felt a big pride in showing my strength this way, how many hardships I’ve been through and how I’m still standing, still going. But I’m done with that. 11:11 Happy #singlesday ! Did you know that’s a 11:11 Happy #singlesday ! Did you know that’s a thing?? I found out about it last year and I did not take it well. Singleness hasn’t been easy to navigate in a world that’s infatuated with love stories, so when I received the promotional email with shopping discounts, I was upset. It was enough to be single; I didn’t want to celebrate it. ** Fast forward a year and now I’m even posting about it! Isn’t funny how much we can change in a year? This change of heart is one that I’ve been praying about for a long time because I didn’t want to live my life holding a grudge on God, I didn’t want to be mad about something I didn’t have (still don’t btw😂). Today I’m grateful I can talk about it with peace and contentment knowing that God is good. I’ll have to plan my shopping around this day next year! ** Did you struggle with singleness?
